Fortnite's weird comet has players thinking changes in the game are on the way!
Are the tilted towers about to get destroyed?
Fortnite Battle Royale looks like it is due for some kind of cosmic event. At first it sounded like an April fool's content. But the comet in the sky over Tilted Towers has been confirmed by multiple eye witnesses and there are dozens of fan theories
.flying around about what might be about to happen in Fortnite.
The most common theory is that Tilted Towers, which is filled with weapons and gear,is about to be destroyed by the comet because Epic Games thinks it unbalances the game.
As we start to enter into the endgame for Season 3 in Fortnite: Battle Royale, most eyes are on the Battle Pass and the challenge page as players try to raise their level high enough to earn the elusive
John Wick The Reaper skin. Some other eyes, however, are fixed on the sky, gazing at the small blue comet that's gradually been getting bigger and bigger as the season has gone on. What started as an imperceptible and possibly inconsequential piece of a wide-ranging skybox has grown to the point where Epic is obviously signaling it's importance -- you could easily play the game and never notice it, but at this point you can't miss it if you're looking for it. What the comet means, however, is up for debate.
We've heard theories that the comet would hit before -- some suggested it might strike on April 1 -- and there's another one suggesting that it might hit today, April 18. The justification is pretty convoluted, but it comes down to various interpretations of morse code controller rumbles. Epic has already said that these random controller vibrations are a bug, but the rabbit hole is deep on this one. Considering we're already a few hours into April 18, it seems deeply unlikely that the comet is going to hit today. But at this point, it also seems likely that the comet will hit eventually.
The current dominant theory is that the comet is aimed at Tilted Towers, and that it's going to turn the game's most popular location into a smoking crater, inverting the current vertical construction. I tend to think that this is going to happen, but I'm not so sure that Epic is going to stop with that: the comet that killed the dinosaurs caused planetary atmospheric and environmental change, after all. I wouldn't be surprised if Epic uses the comet for some sort of wider map reshuffling, one that might keep the overall topography and layout intact but could see much broader changes to assets and overall feel. It would be a big change, but Epic has already given this map a major revamp once. Who's to say it won't do it again?
I suspect that the comet will hit on April 30, the same day that Season 3 ends -- or possibly May 1. And when it comes it will both signal the end of Season 3 and announce the beginning of Season 4, ideally in a manner explosive enough to fit the game's massive popularity. Seasons so far haven't done much besides introducing new cosmetics along with a new Battle Pass, but it's not a massive leap to think that future seasons could come with larger changes to the map or overall style as well. So long as this game remains as popular as it is, Epic would do well to keep raising the stakes on its established rhythms in order to keep people guessing, playing, and paying.
R.I.P TILTED TOWERS
ABOUT THE GAME
Fortnite is a shooter/building game in which players are tasked with saving the world after 98% of the population was wiped out by a mysterious force. The game is designed for co-operative play for up to four players per game.
There are a few key elements to the game, resource collecting, exploration, shooting, building, and improving heroes and weapons.
The game is split into numerous story missions which make up zones on a much larger map. As missions are completed, more of the world map is revealed. During each mission, players will have to repel the enemy, zombie-like creatures called Husks. These enemies come in a variety of forms and become increasingly harder as the game progresses.
In September 2017, Epic also released a free to play Battle Royale mode (see Battle Royale section below).
The game comes with an excellent tutorial to get players started and it’s a great introduction to the gameplay.
